In 1998, a total of 15, 687 motor vehicle thefts were reported by law enforcement agencies in Colorado.  This is a 3.8% decrease in motor vehicle thefts from 1997.  Motor vehicle thefts accounted for 30.7% of the major offenses reported.

Of the 15,687 vehicles stolen, 9,907* were automobiles, 2,535* were trucks or buses, and 857* were classified as other vehicles.
